The Thai–Nordic Innovation Co-Creation Platform is a cooperation program that connects Thailand's innovation ecosystem with the Nordic countries through on-the-ground engagement, knowledge exchange, and the joint development of initiatives between Thai and Nordic partners. It is convened by TNIU, the Thailand and Nordic Countries Innovation Unit.

The purpose is in the name. This is not a study tour. The platform is designed to move Thai and Nordic partners from getting to know each other toward shared initiatives with clear owners, goals and next steps.

What is TNIU?

TNIU — the Thailand and Nordic Countries Innovation Unit — is a collaborative effort led by the Royal Thai Embassies in the Nordic region, serving as a hub and gateway for innovation and sustainable development between Thailand and the Nordics.

Its work has three parts: connecting Thai and Nordic strategic networks, co-creating through workshops and events, and communicating news, opportunities and insights across both regions. TNIU is based at the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm, and its work spans Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.

Why the Nordics, and why now?

• The Nordics lead on innovation. Sweden ranked 2nd in the world in the Global Innovation Index 2025, and invests 3.51% of its GDP in research and development.
• The relationship is deepening. Thailand and Sweden share nearly 160 years of diplomatic relations, and upgraded to a Strategic Partnership in 2025.
• Innovation is now part of diplomacy. Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs treats innovation diplomacy as a core mechanism of its economic diplomacy — linking research, technology, investment and international cooperation to concrete results.
• Thailand offers what the Nordics want. A gateway to ASEAN's more than 680 million people, and a "Living Lab" where Nordic companies, researchers and startups can test, develop and scale with Thai partners.

The 2026 program, day by day

The 2026 program was co-created from the start. Over three months, five Thai ecosystem builders — the National Innovation Agency (NIA), Techsauce, CUTIP at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand Deep Tech Accelerator Alliance and SEA Bridge — worked with TNIU, the Royal Thai Embassy in Stockholm, the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen and Epicenter Stockholm to design the program together: the itinerary, the organizations to visit, and the partners to bring into the room. The delegation arrived in Stockholm on 4 September 2026.

• 4 September · Stockholm. Welcome by H.E. Mrs. Arunrung Phothong Humphreys, Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden, with a focus on Health Tech and Food and Agri Tech, followed by an introduction to Epicenter, House of Innovation.
• 5 September · Stockholm. The Drömlandet exhibition at Tekniska Museet on how Sweden became an innovation nation, and a TNIU FIKA with more than 30 Thai professionals, founders and students in Sweden.
• 7 September · Norrköping. Norrköping Science Park, Linköping University and Visual Sweden, with Visualiseringscenter C. That evening, the Ambassador hosted a networking reception with more than 30 Swedish partners across innovation and sustainable forestry.

• 8 September · Nordic Tech Week. "Beyond the Beach: Thailand as a Bridge to the ASEAN Innovation Ecosystem" at Epicenter Stockholm — Team Thailand's first appearance at Nordic Tech Week, with more than 80 participants from Sweden and beyond.
• 9–10 September · Stockholm. Investor Day at Nordic Tech Week, and meetings across Stockholm's university and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
• 11 September · Copenhagen. The Thailand–Denmark Innovation Ecosystem Partnership Forum at the Thai Ambassador's Residence, hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Copenhagen through TNIU and opened by H.E. Mrs. Suphanvasa Chotikajan Tang, Ambassador of Thailand to Denmark. More than 30 participants, including more than 12 Danish organizations such as Kalundborg Symbiosis, Copenhagen Capacity, BioInnovation Institute, Danish Life Science Cluster and Dan-Thai Net. The delegation also visited HOFOR and Digital Hub Denmark.

What each Thai partner offered

At the Stockholm showcase, each Thai organization set out how Nordic partners could co-create with Thailand:

• National Innovation Agency (NIA) — "Groom – Grant – Growth – Global": joint programs, two-way market access, business and investor matching, and real-world pilots.
• Techsauce — access to Thailand's tech ecosystem through media, community, a global stage and ventures, including Techsauce Global Summit, which drew more than 18,000 participants from over 60 countries this year.
• SEA Bridge — Thailand as a base for cross-border and cross-ASEAN collaboration: market entry, and co-building products and new ventures, especially in Health, Wellness and Longevity, Functional Food, Education and Creative Economy— connected to university networks and young talent across Southeast Asia.
• CUTIP, Chulalongkorn University — a "soft landing" through talent that understands both technology and the Thai market, a low-risk way in through student projects, and exchange in both directions.
• Thailand Deep Tech Accelerator Alliance — Thailand as a Living Lab for deep tech, with 12 accelerators and more than 500 startups: test in three months, co-create within a year, then scale.

Founders who have made the crossing also shared their experience, including GenomeVault, a Swedish startup with a Thai founder applying eDNA technology to biodiversity assessment, and PEEL Lab, which turns pineapple-leaf waste — otherwise burned, adding to PM2.5 — into an alternative to animal leather.

Why it matters

Cooperation between Thailand and the Nordics works best when it runs both ways — and the evidence says Thai companies are ready for that.

In a survey of 91 Thai companies conducted by SEA Bridge ahead of the program, 71% — 65 companies — offered to act as a Nordic partner's route into Thailand and ASEAN, and 25 said they would host a Nordic partner in Thailand at their own cost.

Thai companies are not approaching the Nordics as supplicants. They bring manufacturing, distribution, local market knowledge and regulatory experience. That is what makes co-creation, rather than one-way technology transfer, possible.

SEA Bridge's role

SEA Bridge (Really Corporation Co., Ltd.) — The Cross-Border Venture Builder — was one of the five Thai ecosystem builders that co-designed and delivered the 2026 program with TNIU, the Royal Thai Embassies and Epicenter Stockholm.

• In Stockholm, SEA Bridge presented Thailand as a base for cross-border and cross-ASEAN collaboration at "Beyond the Beach."
• In Copenhagen, SEA Bridge joined the Thailand–Denmark Partnership Forum, exchanging with Danish partners on market access and business opportunities.
• Before the program, SEA Bridge surveyed 91 Thai companies on their readiness for Nordic partnership.
• After the program, SEA Bridge is contributing to the Team Thailand follow-up, including a playbook of lessons from the program, currently in review with partner organizations.

What comes next

The platform is designed to continue beyond a single visit. Sectors highlighted across the 2026 program included health and medical technology, food and agri-tech, biotechnology and life sciences, bio-based industry and forestry, and clean energy.
